China on Wednesday expressed strong opposition to what it called the “arbitrary use of tariffs” and “unjustified harassment” by the United States targeting Chinese industries, following Washington’s plan to impose tariffs on semiconductor imports from China.
Speaking at a regular press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian urged the United States to correct its “wrong practices.”
He warned that China would take necessary measures to protect its legitimate rights and interests if the US proceeds with the planned tariffs, according to news reports.
The announcement underscores growing tensions between Beijing and Washington over trade and technology, particularly in the high-stakes semiconductor sector.
