Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf stated that Iran will close the Strait of Hormuz if the U.S. blockade is not lifted, noting that transit through the strait will take place “along a specified route and with Iran’s permission.”
Iranian state television quoted a Defense Ministry spokesperson as saying that the strait is open “only under the ceasefire and under specific conditions,” stressing that vessels linked to “hostile forces” will not be allowed to pass through it.
Earlier on Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump said that the American blockade on Iranian ports would continue until the two countries reach an agreement to end the war, despite Tehran’s announcement of reopening the Strait of Hormuz during the ceasefire period.
