MP Attallah Al-Hneiti sponsored a parliamentary motion urging the government to draft a general amnesty law. The motion—which will be submitted to the Speaker of the House of Representatives to be forwarded to the government once MP signatures are completed—emphasized that issuing a general amnesty law represents a widespread popular and parliamentary demand due to its positive social, economic, and humanitarian impacts.

It noted that a general amnesty contributes to fostering values of societal tolerance, reuniting families, and alleviating overcrowding in correctional and rehabilitation centers, thereby enhancing the efficiency of the penal system. Furthermore, it facilitates the reintegration of numerous individuals into society and the labor market, enabling them to settle their status and resume their livelihoods, which in turn helps stimulate the economy and ease the financial burden on families affected by the ongoing detention of their primary breadwinners.
