UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Tuesday called on the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to immediately engage with his Personal Envoy to Sudan, Ramtane Lamamra, and to take swift and concrete steps toward a negotiated settlement.اضافة اعلان

In a statement issued in his name, Guterres urged an immediate cessation of hostilities, expressing his deep concern over the recent military escalation in El Fasher, North Darfur, Sudan.

He noted that for more than eighteen months, El Fasher and surrounding areas in North Darfur have been at the center of immense suffering, with hundreds of thousands of civilians trapped under an intensifying siege by the RSF. Many have been dying daily from malnutrition, disease, and violence.

Guterres strongly condemned violations of international humanitarian law and human rights abuses in El Fasher, including indiscriminate attacks, the targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure, as well as gender-based violence, ethnically motivated attacks, and mistreatment.

He once again called for the immediate lifting of the siege, the unhindered and rapid delivery of humanitarian aid, and safe access to all civilians in need. Guterres also voiced deep concern over the continued influx of weapons and fighters into Sudan, warning that it further worsens the already dire situation in the country. — (Petra)
