Youth advocacy group wants event organisers to tighten security

The Jamaica Youth Advocacy Network, JYAN, wants event organisers to tighten security arrangements and pay keener attention to youth safety.

JYAN made the call in a statement on Wednesday.

It follows a brawl at the ‘Zimi Seh Beach’ party in St Ann on Sunday. JYAN says based on the videos, there was a lack of visible security presence at the location.

The group argues that security teams should be positioned in visible, reachable areas to facilitate rapid assistance, with clear emergency procedures in place.

Beyond that, JYAN says there are systemic challenges for youth safety in large-scale event planning.

The youth advocacy group says youth-centred entertainment spaces play a vital role in social connection, mental well-being, and local culture.
