Energy Minister, Daryl Vaz, says the government has protected Jamaicans from prospective fuel price increases of almost JMD$3.7 billion.
He made the disclosure at Wednesday’s post-Cabinet media briefing at Jamaica House.
On July 15, Petrojam announced an increase in the prices of automotive diesel oil and ultra-low sulphur diesel.
The state-owned oil refinery said the move stemmed from the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict, which started in February.
Minister Vaz says the government, including Petrojam, will continue to work to cushion the impact of global fuel pressures, even as world oil prices have been relatively stable.
