Two Jamaicans in Diamond League Ineligible for Wildcard Entry

Two of the three Jamaicans who are looking to be crowned Wanda Diamond League champions on Wednesday’s first day of the finals, will not be able to accept wildcard entries to next Month’s World Athletics Championships in Tokyo Japan.

Olympic silver medallist Wayne Pinnock who’ll be going for the men’s Long Jump title and Paris Shot Put bronze medallist Rajindra Campbell, even if they win the Diamond, because they’ve have started the process of switching allegiance to Turkey they nor Jamaica will benefit from a wild card as they are not eligible to compete at the Worlds.

Carey McLeod who’ll also be hoping to win the men’s Long Jump Diamond title, will have the luxury of using either the wildcard or his World Championship Qualifying standard.

The other Jamaican in the runnings for a Diamond trophy on the first day is Jordan Scott who goes into the meet as leader of the men’s Triple Jump and favourite to land the title.

A win for Scott may not benefit Jamaica as no-one else is even close to the world championship standard of 17.22m or even in the quota pool.
