Students entering grade seven who are identified to be struggling will be allowed to do six subjects as opposed to ten or more.
The change was announced during the Education Transformation Oversight Committee, ETOC, quarterly media briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister on Wednesday.

Chairman of the Education Transformation Oversight Committee, ETOC, Dr. Adrian Stokes, announced the reduced subject load as he provided an update on the implementation of the Patterson Report.
The Chief Education Officer, Terry Ann Thomas Gayle, says the ministry will use its Curriculum Instruction and Assessment roadmap to determine which students need the reduced subject load.
That roadmap outlines the ministry’s pathway policy, which speaks to customization of the curriculum based on where the students are.
And Education Minister, Dr. Dana Morris Dixon, says the measure is being implemented to help the students who struggled with literacy at the secondary level.
Meanwhile, Minister Morris Dixon says some adjustments will be made to the Grade 6 Primary Exit Profile Exams in order to better gauge the literacy and numeracy level of the students entering high school.
