Police Recapture All Nine Escapees; Woman Charged for Harbouring Fugitive

All nine inmates who escaped from the Constant Spring lock-up in St. Andrew on Tuesday are now back in custody.

The latest one, 19-year-old Alunzo Espute of Cassava Piece in Kingston 8, reportedly turned himself in at the Yallahs Police Station in St Thomas about 1:30 Thursday morning.

Espute is charged with murder.

The nine men cut their way through a grille and a metal door at the lock-up.

They fled custody shortly after 1AM.

They were recaptured in different sections of the island, as far as Westmoreland and Trelawny.

Others were nabbed in St Catherine and one was nabbed St. Andrew on Wednesday evening.

Meanwhile, Commanding Officer for the St. Catherine North Division, SSP Hopton Nicholson, is reminding the public that it’s an offence to harbour fugitives.

His warning comes after one of the escapees was caught in the company of a woman.
