The Jamaica Constabulary Force, JCF, has made a major cocaine find at a port in Kingston, seizing approximately $1 billion Jamaican dollars’ worth of the illicit substance.

That’s the equivalent of roughly US$6.3 million.

The police have linked the seizure to a drug syndicate operating out of the port.

The massive drug seizure was made earlier this week.

But the JCF only revealed the developments in a statement on Friday, the same day a major multi-agency operation was conducted at the Kingston Container Terminal.

The operation involved the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division, FNID, and the Jamaica Customs Agency, with support from the JCF Specialised Operations Branch.

Earlier on Friday, our news centre reported that several employees at the terminal were taken into custody in the operation, which started around 2 pm.

The police have confirmed the arrests.

They say those arrested are linked to what they believe is a drug smuggling syndicate operating out of the facility.

Police have so far declined to state the suspected source of the drugs or the destination of the shipment.

Investigators say their probe remains ongoing and further updates will be provided.
