Man freed of gun charges after over a year in custody

A man who spent more than a year behind bars on gun and ammunition charges has been freed in the Gun Court section at the Supreme Court on Wednesday.

Mark Wright was on trial on charges of unauthorized possession of a firearm and ammunition arising from an incident on Dillpath Crescent, in Waterhouse St. Andrew, on April 28, 2025.

Wright was among four men who were arrested and charged after police reportedly found a semi-automatic firearm and 19 rounds of ammunition in a motor vehicle.

Three of the men were previously freed this year after the prosecution offered no evidence against them.

Wright’s trial began on Wednesday.

But after the first witness, a policeman, was cross-examined, Chief Justice Bryan Sykes ruled that Wright was not guilty.

Wright was represented by attorney Sayeed Bernard.
