The Jamaica Urban Transit Company, JUTC, has discontinued bus service on several routes due to a series of stone throwing incidents.
In a statement on Friday night, the state-owned bus company said buses that travel along the 30, 32, and 47 routes have been discontinued with immediate effect.
The JUTC has given no indication when they’ll resume operations on the affected routes. It’s understood that the withdrawal of service was prompted by advice from police commissioner, Dr. Kevin Blake.
Buses on those routes travel along Washington Boulevard where there have been six confirmed stone throwing incidents resulting in damage of six different units.
The JUTC says the stoning incidents have led to six accidents.
Nationwide News understands there is a total of seven confirmed incidents with one act of vandalism reported in the Rockfort area of east Kingston.
There are also unconfirmed reports of another attack on the assets of the state-owned bus company.
The management of JUTC contacted the police on Friday following four acts of vandalism. It’s understood several drivers employed by the company have expressed fear in traversing some areas due to attacks by vandals.
