The National Indoor Sports Centre will be the focus of national attention on Saturday when the country says it’s final goodbye to iconic track and field coach Stephen Francis at an official thanks giving ceremony scheduled to start at 11am.

Francis passed away at the Tony Thwaites Wing of the University Hospital of the West Indies on July 4, a day after celebrating his 63rd.

The larger than life Francis had been to Independence Park Limited, home of the National Stadium more times than one cares to remember, and in 23 hours from now his body will be on the premises for the final time, as a proud nation waves goodbye to a man who’s place in the pantheon of coaches is already secured.

The service of thanksgiving will be officiated by four reverend.

Prime Minister Dr. The Most Honourable Andrew Holness and Sports Minister Olivia Grange will be among those doing tributes.

Other tributes will come from 2009 World 1oom Hurdles champion Brigitte Foster Hylton, former world 100m record holder Asafa Powell and President of NACAC Mike Sands.

President of the MVP Track Club Bruce James will do the rememberance, while Stephen’s brother Paul will deliver the Eulogy.

Also Tributes will come from Opposition leader Mark Golding, President of World Athletics Lord Sebastian Coe, JAAA’s President Garth Gayle, Chairman of the Wolmers Trust Milton Samuda, Principal of G.C Foster College Maurice Wilson and head of Team Jamaica Bickle Irwin Clare.

Paul Francis will be the Urn Bearer while a Guard of Honour will be formed by athletes trained by Stephen.

Francis produced athletes who have won over 40 gold medals at global championships and over 70 other medals to include silver and bronze.
