Jamaica has moved a step closer to hosting the 2031 FIFA Senior Women’s World Cup, after the Ministry of Sport and the Jamaica Football Federation, JFF, signed guarantee agreements for the tournament.

Jamaica will co-host the World Cup alongside the United States, Costa Rica and Mexico, with the National Stadium expected to host between three and five group-stage matches, as well as one Round of 32 fixture.

Minister of Sport Olivia Grange says the agreement gives Jamaica bragging rights as the first Caribbean country to host Women’s World Cup matches.

The guarantees cover key areas including visas and immigration, safety and security, check-in procedures, indemnification and other legal requirements.

Grange says hosting the tournament will also provide significant economic benefits, with international visitors expected to boost spending on food, transportation and tours.

Grange stressed that global television exposure for Kingston will also provide priceless value for Jamaica’s tourism brand, while strengthening the country’s reputation as a sporting destination in the region.
