Four More JUTC Buses Stoned In Escalating Attacks

Nationwide News understands that an additional four buses of the state-owned Jamaica Urban Transit Company, JUTC, were stoned along Washington Boulevard in St. Andrew Friday night.

Head of Security at the JUTC, Radcliffe Lewis, confirmed that the stoning incidents occurred in the vicinity of the communities of Marveley, Drew’s Land and Headley Avenue in the area.

All four buses were reportedly packed with passengers.

It’s understood the buses suffered damage to the doors and windows.

Our news centre has also received unconfirmed reports of a fifth stoning incident in Rockfort in east Kingston.

Friday night’s stoning incidents are the latest in a string of brazen attacks on the state-owned bus fleet. The incidents follow the commissioning of 93 new buses for the JUTC.

Managing director at the JUTC, Owen Ellington, has reported the attacks to police commissioner, Dr. Kevin Blake.

The management of the JUTC is reportedly requesting police presence along the routes as their drivers have expressed safety fears in light of the escalating attacks.
