180 Napoli fans arrested in Eindhoven

Some 180 Napoli fans were arrested overnight in Eindhoven ahead of the Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven and were expelled from the Dutch city, according to supporters and official sources.

The Napoli fans had travelled to Eindhoven for the fixture and found their match tickets cancelled after the detentions, supporters said. Dutch authorities say the fans were arrested after breaching a designated security zone established by mayor Jeroen Dijsselbloem, and refusing police orders to leave the area.

Police described the arrests as a preventive measure amid fears of crowd trouble ahead of the match.

The Dutch authorities forwarded documentation on the incident to police in Naples so that Italian officials may decide whether additional sanctions or stadium bans will apply to those involved.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani confirmed via social media that the Italian Embassy in The Hague has already dispatched staff and that agents from the Italian security police are on site.

The embassy in The Hague stated that Dutch police will remove fans without tickets and provided an assistance number +31 651541399 for any needs.
