A woman has died and a man has been injured after a two-car collision in Co Cork.

The crash took place on the N25 Midleton to Youghal Road, near the Two Mile Inn, at approximately 6:15pm this evening.

The woman, aged in her 60s, who is believed to be from Cork city, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man, also aged in his 60s, who was travelling in the same vehicle, was rushed to Cork University Hospital after being seriously injured in the crash.

No other injuries have been reported at this time.

The woman’s death brings the number of people who have died on Irish roads to 180.

Earlier, a truck driver miraculously escaped serious injury after his vehicle overturned in east Cork.

The incident occurred outside Midleton shortly after 1pm when the articulated lorry apparently spun out of control, ploughed through a roadside wall and overturned onto its side in a field.

The driver suffered minor injuries in the incident but was not seriously hurt.
