Three people have been taken to hospital following a chemical spill incident at Trinity College Dublin this morning.

The spillage took place at Trinity’s Biomedical Sciences Institute (TBSI) on Pearse Street in Dublin city centre at 11am on Tuesday morning.

“There was an incident this morning (11am) at the Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute (TBSI) on Pearse Street involving a chemical spill,” a spokesperson said.

“Three individuals were transferred to St James’ Hospital. Dublin Fire Brigade and An Garda Síochána attended the scene but have since left and the situation is under control.

“The building is closed for environmental cleaning. We have no further update at this stage.”

A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí assisted emergency services at an incident that occurred at a premises on Pearse Street, Dublin 2 at approximately 11.25am this morning, Tuesday, January 20, 2026.”

A spokesperson Dublin Fire Brigade said firefighters “were called to reports of an explosion in a laboratory on Pearse Street” shortly after 11am on Tuesday morning”.

“Firefighter/paramedics along with advanced paramedics responded from Tara Street and Phibsborough. Our hazardous material unit from Donnybrook along with two district officers and two ambulances also attended the scene.

“Three people were taken to hospital.”
