Government taxes, levies and commercial charges still account for nearly half of the price of petrol at the pump despite the ongoing energy crisis, as drivers await potential relief measures in the upcoming Budget.

Data released by AA Ireland this week shows that State taxes, levies, and charges make up 46% of petrol costs and 38% of diesel costs, with the motoring organisation noting that September has been a “much steadier month” following steep increases in August.
