The lavish salaries of the Irish media watchdog costing millions

Coimisiún na Meán is Ireland media watchdog: fighting the good fight against disinformation and insisting on diversity and distributing tens of millions in taxpayer funds to the kind of media they approve of – in addition to adopting the mantle of being the EU’s attack dogs in enforcing the Digital Services Act against baddies on social media who might express unsanctioned opinions on a range of issues.

We tend to think of these monitors as scrappy underdogs, furiously protecting consumer or civil rights in straitened circumstances – toiling away for the common good because the mission is so critical. But no: these media commissioners clearly operate more along the lines of L’Oreal, believing that however generous the largesse is, they are worth it.
