It’s very likely that the Irish College of General Practitioners did not expect any pushback when they came to the Oireachtas Health Committee to speak in favour of scrapping the mandatory 3-day wait before abortion.  That assumption may have been what left them so badly exposed under questioning, with bravura performances from TDs who demolished the arguments in support of removing the vital time-to think before abortion. 

The appalling groupthink in the political and media establishment in general around every aspect of the abortion debate, may have led to a false sense of security. Since 2018, the pro-life view has been censored, and demands for further liberalisation of the law – even as the rates soar to a horrifying 11,000 abortions a year – are met with the sort of cooing, obsequious, eager favour from that establishment that simultaneously brooks no scrutiny and threatens all opposition.
