Evan Ferguson is a major doubt for the Cezech play-off

There is fresh concern over the fitness of Ireland striker Evan Ferguson ahead of the World Cup play-off later this month as it’s been reported that he has returned to parent club Brighton for another medical assessment.

The Meath native has been absent from the Roma squad for their last six games, and he will definitely play no part in their trip to Genoa on Sunday. He was back at Roma’s Trigoria training centre last week, having spent time with the medical staff there as they assess the seriousness of his ankle injury with a fear that he will need to undergo surgery, with Ferguson spotted using crutches.
