EU: avoid words like ‘maternity leave’, ‘motherly’

A guide funded by the European Union to assist with integration has been slammed for “removing meaning from language” as it cautions against the use of words like “motherly” and “maternity leave”. 

It also insists that using ‘female’ and ‘male’ to describe women and men “reduces them to their reproductive abilities and enforces the notion that differences and inequalities between women and men are grounded in biology, instead of socially constructed roles.”
