If there’s any use in having a significant ‘Progressive Element’ involved in the governance of the country, it’s that its members infrequently forget how much further ahead of the rest of the population they are and drop absolutely clangers in public as a result.
To make the point plainer, a concrete example. Last week, Fianna Fáil MEP Billy Kelleher in an interview suggested that the three-day abortion waiting period was put into the abortion legislation so as to “get people to look at the 12 weeks as a reasonable proposal”.
