Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum said on Tuesday that they started supplying the electricity ministry with natural gas from the Khor Mor field in Iraqi Kurdistan under an agreement to support the country’s electricity output.
An agreement was reached last December between the Electricity Ministry and the two companies to supply 100 million cubic feet of natural gas per day from the Khor Mor facility to the Taza gas-fired power plant in Kirkuk province for a period of one year.
The step took place after a project to increase the production capacity of the Khor Mor gas field to 750 million cubic feet per day was completed.
The completion of the expansion project increased the availability of additional gas quantities to local markets through the pipeline network, as reported by Shafaq News.
Majid Jafar, CEO of Crescent Petroleum and Managing Director of Dana Gas, stated that the gas transfer to the Electricity Ministry in Baghdad marks an important milestone in Iraqi Kurdistan’s gas sector growth.
Jafar explained that this development will address the growing demand for electricity and enhance the services offered to residents.
Richard Hall, CEO of Dana Gas Group, described the deal as an important step reflecting the outcomes of the production growth program.
According to Hall, the agreement paves the way for enhanced collaboration within Iraq’s energy sector, strengthens energy security, and contributes to the stability of the electricity grid.
The Khor Mor gas project provides the fuel required to produce more than 80 percent of the energy in Iraqi Kurdistan, which supplies power to over eight million people.
