Chevron CFO bullish on Iraq after West Qurna 2, Nassiriya agreements

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Chevron boasts “significant potential” to expand its activities in Iraq over the next decade, according to Chief Financial Officer Eimear Bonner, highlighting the US oil company’s increasing trust in the country’s energy sector after recent deals with Baghdad.

Speaking to Bloomberg, Bonner said that Iraq remained one of Chevron’s top priority markets for future production expansion after the signing of preliminary agreements to pursue negotiations on the massive West Qurna 2 and Nassiriya oil fields.

She added that Chevron has been encouraged by its interaction with Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi and Iraq’s Ministry of Oil while discussions continue and that the corporation is also collaborating with Baghdad on diverse crude export routes to boost Iraq’s long-term energy security.

The statements bolster rising trust among foreign energy corporations after Al-Zaidi’s visit to the United States earlier this month, during which Iraq inked more than $60 billion in investment deals covering energy, infrastructure, banking, and technology.
