Al Zawraa secures 1-1 draw against Qatar SC in Gulf Club Champions League opener

Iraqi powerhouse Al-Zawraa opened their campaign in the AGCFF Gulf Club Champions League 2026–2027 season with a 1–1 draw against Qatari outfit Qatar SC on Tuesday evening, October 13, 2026.

The opening Group B clash, hosted at Suheim bin Hamad Stadium in Doha, kicked off at 5:45 PM Baghdad time (+03:00 GMT) and ended in a draw after a tightly contested tactical affair.

The Baghdad-based side claimed an early lead in the 21st minute when forward Mohammed Sherif found the net, capping off an organized attacking sequence. Qatar SC intensified offensive pressure in response, eventually leveling the score four minutes into first-half stoppage time through striker Yohan Boli.

A guarded second half produced limited clear-cut opportunities for either side, with both defensive structures remaining firm until the final whistle to secure a point apiece.

Al-Zawraa competes in Group B alongside Qatar SC, the UAE’s Al-Nasr, and Bahrain’s Al-Riffa. Meanwhile, fellow Iraqi representative Erbil SC features in Group C, grouped against Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ettifaq, UAE’s Ajman Club, and Kuwait’s Kazma SC.

Under tournament regulations, the winners and runners-up from each group advance to the quarter-finals alongside the two best third-placed finishers. The knockout stages are scheduled to unfold in spring 2027, with the two-legged quarter-final ties set between March 2 and March 17, followed by the semi-finals and final matches between April 23 and April 30, 2027.
