Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Ministry of Interior announced on Thursday that it permanently dismissed 38 officers and 180 personnel over administrative and financial corruption, with another 3,245 personnel discharged for desertion.

The purge represents a significant internal effort as part of the ongoing “Operation Dawn,” a nationwide anti-corruption campaign spearheaded by Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi’s government. The campaign has targeted numerous public officials and high-profile individuals.

According to an official statement from Miqdad Miri, the spokesperson for the Interior Ministry, the total number of individuals affected encompasses various categories of misconduct.

After receiving clear evidence of their direct involvement in bribery and financial misconduct, 38 officers were permanently removed from service.

Finalized judicial verdicts convicting 180 enlisted personnel of corruption accusations resulted in their official removal from service.

As part of larger ministry attempts to reestablish strong institutional discipline, 3,245 service personnel were discharged only for abandoning their duties.

These dismissals took place within the first 100 days of the current government’s tenure.

This security-sector cleanup is part of the larger nationwide drive “Operation Dawn.” Between late June and August, security operations resulted in the arrest of at least 210 lawmakers, public servants, and business executives.
