Bogor, IO – The Indonesian men’s national volleyball team has been given a high target for the 2026 AVC Boys’ U18 Volleyball Championship. The Indonesian Volleyball Association (PBVSI) has high hopes that the squad coached by Odyk Hermanto can reach the Top Four in this major Asian volleyball event.
PBVSI Deputy Chairman II, Djoko Sardono, assessed that the Young Garuda squad’s preparations are optimal to compete for the best results at the 2026 AVC Boys’ U18 Volleyball Championship. Following the 2026 PBVSI National Championship in Bulungan, Jakarta, several players were called up for a training camp in Semarang before moving for several weeks to the General Police Kunarto Volleyball Padepokan in Sentul.
“We set a target for the Indonesian men’s national volleyball team at the 2026 AVC Boys’ U18 Volleyball Championship to reach the top four. We hope the senior men’s volleyball team’s success at the 2026 AVC Cup will motivate the junior U-18 team to achieve maximum results in this major international volleyball event in Asia,” said Djoko.
The coach of the Indonesian U-18 men’s national volleyball team, Odyk Hermanto, has had a team structure in place since the 2026 PBVSI National Championship. With relatively few changes to the roster, the manager, who graduated from Surabaya State University, is confident in his lineup.
“Initially, we were preparing for the qualifying round of the 2026 AVC Boys’ U18 Volleyball Championship in Malaysia. Along the way, changes occurred, so we ultimately adjusted our strategy to ensure the lineup suited our needs. We didn’t make many changes because most of the players already knew each other,” said the coach of Atlas Semarang Volleyball Club.
The captain of the Indonesian men’s national volleyball team, Muhammad Rizky Maulana, admitted he was challenged by the target set by the Indonesian Volleyball Association (PBVSI). With the ample training time, the player from the Atlas Semarang club is confident he can compete in this inter-Asian event.
“I want to give my best for the Indonesian men’s national volleyball team. Our preparations have been quite good, so I hope to compete with countries like China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong,” said Rizky.

The Indonesian men’s national volleyball team will depart for Haikou, China, on Friday (July 10) early morning Western Indonesian Time. The Garuda Muda squad is scheduled to be drawn in Pool A for the event alongside Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China.
The Indonesian Volleyball Association (PBVSI) is confident in setting a high target after finishing fifth in the 2025 Asian Men’s U16 Volleyball Championship. In the tournament, held in Thailand, they defeated Uzbekistan 3-2 (25-21, 16-25, 25-14, 23-25, 16-14).
In another tournament at the 2025 Asian Youth Games, the Garuda Muda squad was also recorded as being able to finish in fourth place. In the match for third place, Indra Wahyudi’s team lost 1-3 to Thailand (25-19, 24-26, 21-25, 21-25). (rp)
