Minister Purbaya: State budget to expand access to Sekolah Rakyat – OBSERVER

Jakarta, IO – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to funding the Sekolah Rakyat program through the State Budget (APBN), as it is one of President Prabowo Subianto’s priority initiatives.

The funding shows the government’s commitment to expanding access to quality education while strengthening Indonesia’s human capital development. Purbaya made the remarks during a visit to Integrated People’s School 2 in Surabaya, East Java, on Saturday, August 1.

During the visit, the finance minister stated that the Finance Ministry will ensure sufficient budget allocations for the program’s effective implementation to provide greater educational opportunities for Indonesian children from underprivileged families.

“I have been tasked with providing the budget for the Sekolah Rakyat program. Study hard so you can become ministers or successful people,” Purbaya told the students.

“This is President Prabowo’s program. I hope you will gain a lot of knowledge. Keep studying,” he said.

The visit also allowed Purbaya to see firsthand how the state budget supports education. Education spending is seen a long-term investment in developing high-quality human resources, a key foundation for achieving the vision of Golden Indonesia 2045.

Integrated People’s School 2 in Surabaya is being built on a 6.6-hectare site with a construction contract worth Rp3.52 trillion and a total budget allocation of Rp3.82 trillion. To date, Rp3.21 trillion has been disbursed for the project.

The school adopts an integrated education model, combining elementary, junior high, and senior high school levels within a single campus. It also features dormitory facilities to support both academic learning and character development.

Through the People’s School program, the government aims not only to expand access to quality education but also to nurture a generation that is intelligent, competitive, and capable of becoming Indonesia’s future leaders. (eka)
