Electrifying fleets and integrating transport key to green logistics transformation – ObserverID

Jakarta, IO – The transition to a low-carbon economy is pushing the transportation and logistics sectors to adopt more efficient and environmentally friendly solutions. Electrifying commercial vehicle fleets, optimizing urban distribution and applying technology to maritime and industrial operations are key to building a sustainable and competitive logistics ecosystem in Indonesia.

As electric vehicle technology and supporting systems advance, logistics transformation is expanding beyond emissions reduction to include operational efficiency, supply chain optimization and cross-sector collaboration. Achieving these goals requires supportive policies, infrastructure readiness, technological innovation and stronger cooperation between the Government and industry.

The Indonesian Electric Vehicle Industry Association (Periklindo), together with Gemalindo Kreasi Indonesia, is once again organizing the Periklindo Electric Vehicle Conference (PEVC), an international forum bringing together government officials, regulators, industry players, investors, academics, researchers and technology companies to discuss the future of mobility, industry, investment, technology and low-carbon economic development.

This year’s conference carries the theme “The Future of a Clean and Efficient Mobility,” with discussions focusing on opportunities, challenges and implementation strategies for electrification across transportation and logistics. The theme is explored through two subthemes: “Green Commercial Fleet: Transforming Logistics with Electric Vehicles” and “Beyond Roads & Last-Mile: Optimizing Urban Delivery, Maritime, and Industrial Electrification.”

The first subtheme focuses on accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles in commercial fleets. Key priorities include establishing clear electricity tariff schemes for commercial users, improving grid reliability along major logistics routes and developing incentives for converting existing fleets and procuring environmentally friendly commercial vehicles.

For industry players, understanding Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is essential to assessing the investment feasibility of electric vehicles. Other priorities include preparing power management systems for cold-chain operations and drawing lessons from logistics companies that have already electrified their fleets. Closer collaboration among business-to-business (B2B) electric vehicle providers, telematics and Internet of Things (IoT) solution providers, energy suppliers such as state-owned electricity company PT PLN (Persero) and supply chain companies is also needed to build an integrated green logistics ecosystem.

The second subtheme highlights the need to expand electrification beyond road transport and last-mile delivery. Integrating electric transport across different modes, including maritime and aviation, and standardizing charging infrastructure for industrial use are part of efforts to create a more efficient and sustainable transportation system.

Technology also offers new opportunities to optimize logistics operations. Artificial intelligence (AI) in fleet management can support data-driven decision-making and improve operational efficiency. Meanwhile, repurposing used batteries for energy storage systems (ESS) could advance circular economy practices while extending the use of energy resources.

Realizing this potential requires cross-sector collaboration. Coordination among regulators, including the Ministry of Transportation, developers of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, energy companies and logistics associations is essential to align policies, technological development, infrastructure readiness and industry needs.

Through these two subthemes, the conference aims to generate relevant policy recommendations, provide practical insights for industry players and create opportunities for strategic partnerships to accelerate the transformation of transportation and logistics. An integrated approach to electrification could not only reduce emissions but also improve efficiency, strengthen industrial competitiveness and support the development of a green logistics ecosystem in Indonesia.

Taking place on Oct. 28, at Mövenpick Hotel Jakarta, PEVC 2026 is a strategic forum for government representatives, industry players, technology providers and other stakeholders to exchange perspectives, discuss challenges and explore opportunities to develop a more integrated and sustainable electric vehicle ecosystem.

Through discussions on commercial fleet electrification, logistics and distribution optimization, and electric transportation and industrial development, the conference is expected to produce strategic recommendations and foster concrete partnerships to accelerate Indonesia’s transition to low-emission mobility.
