BULOG: Supporting farmers and fishers at PENAS XVII Forum – OBSERVER

Gorontalo, IO – State logistics agency BULOG has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting farmers, fishers, and other key stakeholders in Indonesia’s food sector as part of the nation’s efforts to achieve sustainable food self-sufficiency.

The commitment was highlighted during the Dialogue Forum of the 17th National Farmers and Fishers Week (PENAS XVII) held in Gorontalo on Sunday, June 21, bringing together more than 370 farmers and fishers from across the country.

Speaking as one of the forum’s key panelists, BULOG President Director Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Dr. Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani emphasized that Indonesia’s progress toward food self-sufficiency results from the hard work of farmers, fishers, and food producers nationwide. He said BULOG will serve as both a food market stabilizer and a strategic partner for farmers by ensuring their harvests are absorbed at fair prices.

“Farmers and fishers are the nation’s food heroes. They play a vital role in ensuring food availability for the Indonesian people,” Rizal said. “For BULOG, food security is not merely about maintaining stock levels. It is also about standing alongside the front lines of food production. We will continue to support them through crop procurement, strengthening food reserves, and maintaining stable supplies and prices.”

As part of these efforts, BULOG continues to purchase farmers’ harvests, particularly harvested dry paddy (GKP), in accordance with the government purchase price of Rp6,500 per kilogram.

As of June 19, 2026, BULOG had procured 3.15 million tons of rice, equivalent to 78.55 percent of its projected 2026 procurement target of approximately 4 million tons.

BULOG also carries out downstream market stabilization through its Food Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) program and government food assistance initiatives. The agency currently manages rice reserves totaling 5.19 million tons, strong foundation to maintain food availability and affordability.

BULOG’s SPHP program has distributed more than 357,000 tons of rice through traditional markets, modern retail outlets, low-cost food campaigns, and Rumah Pangan Kita community food networks.

Rizal added that food self-sufficiency can only be sustained through continuous collaboration among all stakeholders, as farmers and fishers are key actors in safeguarding the nation’s food security.

He also described the PENAS XVII Dialogue Forum as an important platform for gathering input from grassroots food producers, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring that food policies remain closely aligned with the needs of farmers and fishers across Indonesia. (eka)
