Jakarta, IO – National Health Insurer BPJS Kesehatan has clarified that rumors circulating on social media regarding the dissolution of publicly funded healthcare systems are completely false. The National Health Insurance (JKN) program remains fully operational, backed by a solid legal foundation as a core component of Indonesia’s national social security system.
BPJS Kesehatan spokesperson Rizzky Anugerah explained on Tuesday (27/10/2026) that the agency is a public legal entity established under Law 24/2011 on Social Security Organizing Agencies. Meanwhile, the implementation of the national health insurance system is grounded in Law/40 of 2004 on National Social Security System.
“The JKN program is a state program mandated by law. Information circulating on social media about the dissolution of BPJS Kesehatan is untrue. To date, the JKN Program continues to run, and our main focus remains on improving services,” Rizzky said.
He noted that BPJS Kesehatan exists as part of the state’s effort to ensure citizens receive social security protection, including access to basic healthcare needs. This aligns with Article 28H(3) and Article 34(2) of the 1945 Constitution regarding the right to social security and the state’s responsibility to develop a social security system for all.
“Law 24/2011 specifically regulates the establishment of BPJS as a social security administering body. Under Articles 5 and 6, the law governs the establishment of BPJS Kesehatan and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan alongside their respective program operations. Thus, the existence and duties of BPJS Kesehatan carry a clear legal mandate,” Rizzky explained.

He added that the implementation of the JKN program does not rest on temporary policies, but forms an integral part of the national social security framework codified in state legislation. Therefore, the public needs not worry or be swayed by unverified claims.
“Our focus is ensuring the JKN program continues to operate in line with legislative mandates so its benefits can be felt by the public,” Rizzky added.
“We urge all participants to remain calm, avoid placing trust in unverified sources, and consult official BPJS Kesehatan channels for further information.”
He reaffirmed that services for JKN participants are proceeding as usual. Members can continue to access healthcare facilities according to established guidelines and are advised to regularly verify the active status of their membership. (est)
