India’s Jaismine Lamboria created history by winning the gold medal in the World Boxing Championship 2025 being played in Liverpool (UK). In the final of the 57 kg category, Jasmine defeated Poland’s Julia Szeremeta by a 4-1 split decision.
Jaismine, who was a bronze medalist in the Commonwealth Games (2022), made a brilliant comeback after losing the first round and dominated the match. Julia Szeremeta is the silver medalist of Paris Olympics 2024.
Jaismine could not win any medal in Paris Olympics 2024. After this she prepared herself afresh. Recently, she also won the gold medal in the World Boxing Cup held in Astana (Kazakhstan).
Nupur gets silver, Pooja gets bronze
At the same World Boxing Championship, India’s Nupur Sheoran lost in the final of the 80 kg category and won the silver medal, while Pooja Rani won the bronze medal.
No medal for male boxers after 12 years
In contrast to the great success of female boxers in the tournament, this championship was disappointing for the men’s category. India’s 10-member men’s team is returning home without any medal. This is the first time since 2013 that Indian male boxers remained empty-handed.
In the quarter-finals of the 50 kg category, Jadumani Singh Mandengbam gave a tough challenge to the current world champion Sanzhar Tashkenbay of Kazakhstan, but lost 0-4. Apart from Jadumani, only Abhinash Jamwal (65 kg) reached the quarter-finals, while the rest of the players were eliminated in the initial round itself.
