World Bee day celebrated in Kotagiri

World Bee Day was celebrated at the Keystone Foundation campus in Kotagiri on Tuesday.

Conducted on May 20 each year across the world to mark the importance of bees and pollinators to local ecosystems, the Keystone Foundation organised events with the participation of 100 children from local communities and children from Pillur, Sigur, Hasanur and Karamadai from Coimbatore, Erode and Nilgiris districts. The event was held with support from UNESCO women for bees project, a press release from Keystone Foundation stated. “Through this project, women from local community will be trained on beekeeping and understanding its ecosystem services provided by bees.” Games and materials on the inter- linkages with agriculture, biodiversity, climate change and documentation of beekeeping practices were on display during the event, the press release added.
