A CPM regional leader in Malappuram has sparked controversy with a misogynistic victory speech KOCHI: A CPM regional leader who won in Thennela Panchayat in Malappuram has courted controversy with a misogynistic remark in his victory speech.Saed Ali Majeed, who won by a margin of 47 votes, made the controversial remark while addressing his supporters. The man said that women brought here through marriage are not for presenting before strangers for a mere vote, to capture a ward, or to defeat him. Saed Ali also implied that women are for sleeping with their husbands in his controversial speech. He added that the President of the Women’s League (women’s wing of India’s Indian Union Muslim League) released a video the other day, stating that people shouldn’t talk about the Women’s League. “If you are in politics, even the Thangals of Panakkad would be spoken about. Only those who have the guts to listen may enter this field. Otherwise, they should be able to stay home as housewives,” he said.Majeed reportedly resigned as CPM local secretary to contest in the polls as an independent. He won the ward, securing 666 votes, 47 more than his opponent from the IUML.
