With additional fund lighthouse project to be ready soon: Tripura CM

Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday asserted that the light house project being constructed near the Akhaura Integrated Check Post is nearing completion after the release of additional funds by the central government.

“The project was stalled due to certain technical reasons. The initial DPR, based on which the project was started, had several loopholes that were rectified during the second phase of talks with the Centre. The central government has released additional funds for the project and, as far as I know, it will soon be ready for the beneficiaries who enrolled to buy flats,” said Saha.

Saha’s assurance came amid growing concern among people who invested money in the affordable housing scheme.

The foundation stone of the project was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January 2021.

The project was supposed to be completed within the stipulated timeframe, but technical issues caused delays. Work has now resumed following the release of additional funds.

The Chief Minister highlighted multiple issues in his speech, particularly those related to urban management and the infrastructure development of civic bodies in the state.

Speaking at the inauguration of 45 deep tube wells and 27 iron removal plants for Agartala city, built with an estimated budget of Rs 102 crore, Saha said the state government has identified land for satellite townships to address shrinking urban spaces in major cities such as Agartala, Udaipur, and Dharmanagar.

“These three places are already grappling with congestion. To mitigate this crisis, we have identified land for satellite townships,” he said.

According to Saha, the capacity of the Sewage Treatment Plant that treats water flowing downstream towards Bangladesh is being upgraded.

“Both Kalapania and Katakhal canals need strengthened treatment plants. We already have a system, but on review we found that the existing capacity is inadequate. Hence, we are strengthening it,” he added.

On the PM Awas Yojana (Urban), he said, “We have reached 100 percent saturation. Additionally, household toilets have been constructed in around 23,000 houses, and over 1,000 community toilets have been set up. More than Rs 330 crore is being spent on urban infrastructure in 12 civic bodies. Besides this, Rs 99 crore has been obtained from the Asian Development Bank for developing urban tourism spots.”
