Uttarakhand weather update: Rains to continue in these districts on Aug 8

The monsoon remains active across Uttarakhand. Cloud cover persists from the hills to the plains, and spells of showers continue, although the intensity of heavy rainfall has subsided. According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely at many locations across most districts of the state today (August 8, 2026). A ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued for isolated heavy rainfall in the districts of Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Tehri, and Bageshwar.

Cloud Cover Across the State; Landslides Compound Difficulties

The Meteorological Department forecasts that the state’s mountainous districts may experience thunderstorms, lightning, and spells of intense to very intense rainfall in some areas. Thunderstorms and lightning are also predicted for the Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts.

Rising River Levels Increase Risk in Surrounding Areas

Cloud cover persists across the state—from the hills to the plains—and intermittent rainfall continues. While the intensity of heavy rain has decreased compared to recent days, daily life in the mountainous regions remains disrupted. Frequent landslides are blocking various access roads, and river water levels remain elevated.

Madhmaheswar Yatra halted

The pilgrimage to the Madhyamaheshwar Dham (the second Kedar) has currently been halted. Citing increasing risks along the route—compounded by the washing away of the wooden bridge over the Madhuganga River and the reliance on a trolley for crossing—the district administration has taken the major decision to suspend the Madhyamaheshwar pilgrimage until further notice. District Magistrate Vishal Mishra issued these orders, emphasizing that public safety is the top priority.
