A woman constable in Uttar Prades’s Meerut has filed a case against her husband, who is also a constable, and several of her in-laws, accusing them of dowry harassment and attempted sexual assault. The FIR was registered following detailed allegations brought by the officer against half a dozen relatives, including her husband and his family members, sparking an official inquiry by local police.

According to the complaint, the constable married Priyank Sharma on January 26, 2023. Both the complainant and her husband serve as constables in the Uttar Pradesh Police.

The woman’s father reportedly provided significant gifts, including a four-wheeler, at the time of the marriage. However, Priyank Sharma, mother-in-law Kunti Devi, father-in-law Rajeshwar Prasad, brother-in-law Anuj Sharma, sister-in-law Shweta, brother-in-law Mukesh, and sister-in-law Santosh were not satisfied with the dowry and kept demanding a Scorpio SUV.

Her brother and father tried to make her in-laws understand, but after a few days, the same behaviour resumed and physical assault began.

On September 5, 2024, the woman saw her husband Priyank Sharma in a compromising position with her sister-in-law, and when she objected, her brother-in-law Mukesh Sharma started molesting her and making obscene gestures.

He also attempted to rape her.

The case specifically names her husband Priyank Sharma, Kunti Devi, Rajeshwar Prasad, Anuj Sharma, Shweta, Mukesh Sharma, and Santosh as accused in the matter.

Police at Bisalpur station responded to the complaint by registering an FIR against all the accused. An official stated that the matter is under investigation, with all allegations being examined as part of standard procedure.
