Prayagraj: In a relief for students studying in English-medium schools affiliated to the UP Board, textbooks for key High School and Intermediate subjects will now be made available in English as well from the 2027-28 academic session. The move comes after the board noted that while its authorised publishers had so far been printing prescribed textbooks only in Hindi, students enrolled in English-medium institutions were facing difficulty due to the non-availability of affordable English versions. As a result, many were forced to buy original NCERT books at higher prices.Under the new arrangement, textbooks of all major subjects — except language papers — will be printed in both Hindi and English. The decision covers classes 9 and 10 subjects such as English, science, mathematics and social science, and classes 11 and 12 subjects, including English, physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, history, geography, civics, sociology, economics, business studies, accountancy, psychology and home science.Board secretary, Bhagwati Singh, said of 70 NCERT-based textbooks falling under 36 subjects, along with 12 textbooks developed by the board for Hindi, Sanskrit and Urdu, have already been brought into circulation at affordable rates for students of govt, aided and recognised unaided schools across the state. The board has also announced that for the 2027-28 session, dealerships for sale and distribution of these textbooks will be granted to booksellers and institutions under prescribed rules and conditions.
