Two arrested in KPHB medical negligence case linked to death of 66-year-old woman

Two individuals were arrested by the KPHB police on Wednesday in connection with a case of medical negligence that led to the death of a 66-year-old woman in May 2025.

The accused were identified as Penumatsa Srinivas Phanivarama, 46, and Subramanyam Udayagiri, 38. Two smartphones belonging to the accused were seized during the arrests.

The case dates back to May 6, 2025, when the woman visited MedQuest Diagnostic Centre in KPHB Colony for a CT scan after complaining of running nose. During the procedure, a contrast dosage was administered prior to the scan. Shortly afterwards, she reportedly developed complications and suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. While she was being shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, she died on the way.

Following the incident, KPHB police registered a case under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched a detailed investigation. During the probe, investigators collected certificates submitted by the staff who administered the contrast dosage and sought verification from the District Medical and Health Officer on whether the personnel concerned were qualified to carry out the procedure.

Police said the verification revealed that the individuals who administered the dosage were not eligible or authorised to do so. The postmortem examination report also corroborated the finding that medical negligence was a contributing factor to the woman’s death.
