Several properties linked to Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee have come under the scanner of Kolkata Municipal Corporation. The notices have been issued under Section 400(1) of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation Act, 1980 wherein the civic body has sought documents related to building plan approvals and clarification on whether permission was taken for additional construction.
The civic body is administered by the Trinamool Congress but notices have been issued to Mr. Banerjee. Over the past few days, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has been talking about the properties owned by Trinamool Congress general secretary and other leaders of the party.
Seeking details
On Monday (May 18, 2026), Mr. Adhikari said that he had sought details of properties of Trinamool leaders from Municipal Affairs Department and the commissioner of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
“First is Beleghata’s Raju Naskar, who has 18 properties. Second is Kasba’s Sona Pappu, who has 24 properties. Third is Bhatija (nephew in Hindi), Abhishek Banerjee. There are 14 properties registered in the name of the Leaps and Bounds company, four in his own name, and six in the name of his father. The fourth is the son of Javed (Ahmed) Khan (Trinamool’s Kasba MLA), who has 90 properties,” the Chief Minister said.
Before this, an FIR was registered at Bidhannagar North Cyber Crime Police Station against a complaint filed by social activist Rajib Sarkar. The complaint alleged that he delivered provocative speeches and threatened Union Home Minister Amit Shah between April 27 and May 3.
Moved HC to quash FIR
Mr. Banerjee on Monday filed a petition before the Calcutta High Court seeking quashing of an FIR filed against him for allegedly making inflammatory remarks. Senior advocate and Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee said the matter is likely to come up for hearing later this week before the Bench of Justice Saugata Bhattacharyya.
After the defeat in the West Bengal Assembly polls, Abhishek Banerjee has been at the receiving end of criticism by several leaders of the BJP, including State president Samik Bhattacharya who ridiculed the Trinamool leader for his absence on the ground for campaigning in Falta Assembly constituency where polling will be held on May 21.
