Tripura University startup provides purified drinking water to flood-hit families in Assam’s Amguri

Agartala: A Tripura University-backed startup has supplied over 2,000 litres of safe drinking water to around 30 flood-affected families in Assam’s Amguri and nearby areas through its patented mobile water purification technology.

The relief effort was carried out by M.Tech student Ashim and InstaWater technician Santanu, who deployed the startup’s portable purification unit in the flood-hit region to provide clean drinking water to affected residents.

The startup’s founder, Prof Harjeet Nath, an Assistant Professor at Tripura University, said the mobile purification system was designed for rapid deployment during floods, natural disasters and humanitarian emergencies.

He explained that the portable unit can treat contaminated surface water and floodwater directly at the source, producing safe drinking water in locations where conventional supply systems have been damaged or disrupted.

“Access to clean drinking water is one of the most critical needs during floods. Through this indigenous technology developed in Tripura, we aim to provide immediate relief to affected communities while helping reduce the risk of water-borne diseases. We remain committed to supporting disaster response efforts wherever needed,” Nath said.

He added that the initiative demonstrates how university-based research and innovation can be transformed into practical solutions for disaster management and humanitarian assistance.

The portable water purification technology has been developed to ensure quick access to potable water in disaster-affected areas where regular drinking water infrastructure is either unavailable or has become non-functional.

According to Nath, InstaWater has been involved in relief operations across different parts of the country since its inception, deploying its mobile purification systems to provide safe drinking water to communities affected by floods and other natural disasters.

The latest intervention in Assam comes as several flood-affected families continue to struggle with shortages of essential services, including access to clean drinking water.
