Agartala: Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Tuesday said the state government has decided to introduce portable transformers and mobile towers as emergency measures to reduce public inconvenience during crisis situations.
Speaking to reporters after a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Manik Saha, Nath said the government has been considering the introduction of mobile transformers and mobile towers to ensure uninterrupted services during disasters and emergencies.
“Sometimes transformers go out of order and repair work requires considerable time. For such situations, we shall deploy the mobile unit to keep the power supply intact. Similarly, landslides in rainy seasons cause damage to mobile towers which need 21 days to 30 days of time for repair. The mobile unit will act as a stop-gap arrangement when the repair work is underway,” Nath said.
According to the minister, drones will also be deployed from June for the detection of power faults and pilferage.
“It has been decided that drones will be pressed into action for detection of faults and power pilferage—known as hook line in local language. That will help us streamline services,” he added.
Nath further said the power department is planning to enhance electricity generation through multiple sources.
“In the meeting, I informed the Chief Minister that initiatives should be taken to revive the Dumbur hydropower project located in Gomati district. Apart from that, small-scale hydro-kinetic projects also need to be started to enhance our power generation capabilities. In the Maharani area, we have already planned a similar project,” he said.
Highlighting achievements in the renewable energy sector, Nath said the department has made significant progress under PM-KUSUM and PM-DeVINE schemes.
“Many distant and geographically isolated areas are now getting electricity. This has become possible because of the efforts of the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency,” he said.
According to Nath, the Chief Minister expressed satisfaction with the functioning and initiatives of the power department.
