Agartala: The Tripura Police has issued fresh guidelines prohibiting personnel from creating or sharing social media content in uniform if it compromises the dignity, discipline or public image of the force.
The directive was circulated through an official memorandum issued by the Superintendent of Police, West Tripura district, after senior authorities expressed concern over the increasing trend of police personnel posting reels, short videos and similar content on social media platforms while in uniform.
According to the memorandum dated June 11, several instances have come to the notice of the police administration where members of the force were seen producing and uploading social media content that was considered inconsistent with the professional standards expected from law enforcement personnel.
Emphasising the significance of the police uniform, the order stated that it represents authority, responsibility, integrity and public confidence. As such, officers and personnel are expected to uphold the highest standards of conduct whenever they wear the uniform.
Under the new instructions, all police personnel, including members of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and other wings of the department, have been directed not to create, participate in or circulate videos, photographs, reels or any digital content in uniform that could negatively affect the reputation or decorum of Tripura Police.
The memorandum also cautioned against using police attire for personal branding, entertainment content, promotional activities or any purpose that may bring discredit to the organisation.
To ensure compliance, supervisory officers have been tasked with monitoring online activities and educating subordinate staff about the appropriate use of the uniform and expected professional behaviour on digital platforms.
The order further instructed officers to promptly report any inappropriate or objectionable social media posts featuring police personnel in uniform through the prescribed chain of command for necessary action.
Authorities warned that violations of the directive would be treated seriously and could result in departmental proceedings under existing disciplinary regulations.
No additional statement has been issued by the police department apart from the contents of the memorandum.
