Agartala: Congress Working Committee member and MLA Sudip Roy Barman on Thursday branded the principal opposition party, CPIM, as ‘cowardly’ and predicted that it could never become a political force to be reckoned with for its cowardice.
Speaking at a sit-in demonstration organized by several frontal wings of the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee, Roy Barman urged the youngsters to join the Congress party and lead from the front.
“Don’t get hurt, my brothers and sisters in the CPIM, but the fact is, CPIM is not capable of putting up a tough fight. It has emerged as a cowardly party. The doors of Congress are open for all. Come and give strength to us and lead from the front to dislodge the BJP from power,” he said.
Justifying his appeal, Roy Barman alleged that both CPIM and BJP believe in the politics of violence and retribution.
“If by any chance, CPIM can make a comeback, BJP activists who have been openly participating in party activities would have to face the fury of the CPIM foot soldiers. The same applies to the BJP as well. The CPIM workers who have started coming out to participate in party programmes and events are being identified by the BJP leaders. If the BJP returns to power again, they will face the music. Congress is the only party that has rejected the policy of violence. Our leader has said that love and brotherhood are at the core of our politics,” he added.
In his lengthy speech, the Congress leader raised a range of issues, including law and order, deteriorating healthcare facilities, and education. He lambasted the government for failing to honor merit.
“The merit is not honored here. NET, SLET-qualified educated youngsters who have been playing an instrumental role in keeping the wheels of our college education rolling, are earning Rs 500 per day, and that too not every day. At the end of the month, they draw Rs 7,000 to Rs 8,000. Their daily wage is much less than that of day laborers appointed for menial jobs in households. Engineers, highly qualified professionals, are appointed under outsourced agencies that are owned by below-matric undergraduates. This government has failed the educated youngsters of the state,” he added.
