The train services connecting Sakleshpur and Subrahmanya were disrupted on Saturday morning after boulders fell on the track between Yedakumari and Shirabagilu stations due to heavy rains in the Western Ghats.

The railway staff noticed the boulders on the track around 4.23 a.m. on Saturday. The services of three trains were disrupted. The officials stopped the Bengaluru-Kannur Express train (16511) at Kadagaravalli station. Similarly, Bengaluru-Murudeshwara Express (16585) and Vijayapura-Mangaluru Central (07377) were stopped at Sakleshpur station. The officials arranged for breakfast and tea for the stranded passengers.

Services resume

Huge boulders had fallen on the track at multiple locations. The officials sent a material truck to clear the track, and the clearing took five hours after which, the officials certified the track fit to run with a speed limit of 20 kmph at 9.10 a.m. Later, the train services resumed.

Several parts of Sakleshpur taluk received heavy rains on the day. The rain gauges at Hanbal, Hettur, Yeslur in Sakleshpur taluk recorded 55.6 mm, 124.8 mm, and 49.7 mm of rainfall, respectively, in the 24 hours that ended at 8.30 a.m. on Saturday.
