Prayagraj: With Sangam City witnessing a rising footfall of pilgrims and devotees by every passing year, the tourism department has decided to set up four temporary tourism information centres at the Magh Mela.The 44-day Magh Mela commencing on Jan 3, 2026 will culminate on Feb 15, 2026.The tourism department officials claimed that efforts are underway to organise a divine, grand, and clean Magh Mela on the banks of the Ganga, and around 15 crore pilgrims and devotees are expected to visit the annual religious and spiritual grand fair.Following the grand organisation of the Maha Kumbh 2025, Prayagraj has gained international recognition and the steadily increasing number of tourists is a testament to this.Regional tourist officer (Prayagraj) Aparajita Singh says that the number of tourists in Prayagraj was 1,12,13,496 in 2021 which increased to 2,60,47,166 in 2022. She added that the number of tourists visiting Prayagraj in 2023 was 5,06,71,622, while it was 5,12,62,806 in 2024. Interestingly, the number of tourists who visited Prayagraj from Jan to Sept was 6,82,15,806 this year.Elated over the rising footfall of tourists, the tourism department is making extra efforts to offer adequate facilities to pilgrims and devotees in the forthcoming Magh Mela. The four temporary tourist information centres, being set up by the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department, will provide information booklets on all major tourist destinations in Prayagraj in both Hindi and English. They will also be available in digital format. The information centre will also include a guidebook. A list of trained guides will be available to provide tourism information to tourists. Information on registered paying guest houses will also be available to provide accommodation information.
