Dibrugarh: Three youths from Dibrugarh who had undertaken a Bol Bam pilgrimage drowned in the Kaliyapani River, a channel of the Brahmaputra, under Dhola police station in Tinsukia district on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Bishal Shah, Raj Shah and Pankaj Gupta, all residents of Dibrugarh.
According to reports, the three youths had undertaken a nearly 45-km foot pilgrimage to collect holy water from the river and offer it to Lord Shiva.
The tragedy occurred when they entered the Kaliyapani stretch near Dhola to bathe and collect water.

The youths reportedly ventured into deep waters and were swept away by the strong current. Following the incident, a rescue operation was launched, and the bodies of all three pilgrims were subsequently recovered from the river.
The bodies were sent to Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
The Kaliyapani, a dead channel of the Brahmaputra in the Dhola area, has witnessed similar drowning incidents in the past. The latest tragedy has once again highlighted the dangers posed by its deep and unpredictable waters, particularly during the monsoon season.
