Agartala: Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia on Sunday said projects worth Rs 950 crore were inaugurated or had their foundation stones laid during his three-day visit to Tripura.
Speaking to reporters after laying the foundation stone for the Rs 450-crore Matabari Tourism Circuit at Narikelkunja, Scindia said the project would cover five major tourist destinations in the state. These include the Mata Tripura Sundari temple, Neermahal and Ujjayanta palaces, Sepahijala wildlife sanctuary, the rock-cut caves of Chabimura, and 48 islands of Dumboor lake.
“All these locations will be developed as world-class tourism destinations with an investment of 450 crore,” Scindia said.
Detailing other initiatives, the minister said he had earlier laid the foundation stone for a cluster-based agarwood processing centre at Uttar Fulbari under Kadamtala in North Tripura district, with an outlay of Rs 80 crore.
He said projects worth Rs 220 crore were inaugurated or had their foundation stones laid on the first day of his visit. These included road connectivity works and solar microgrid projects generating 750 units of power for 450 remote villages.
Scindia also said he visited the maternal and child healthcare centre under construction at GB Pant Hospital and inspected the new building of Agartala Government Dental College. The two projects, with investments of Rs 192 crore and Rs 200 crore respectively, are scheduled for completion by June 2027.
According to Scindia, the projects dedicated during his visit reflect the central government’s commitment to Tripura under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Tripura Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, who accompanied Scindia at the event, said in a social media post that the Matabari Tourism Circuit project includes beautification and upgradation works at Neermahal, Sepahijala, Udaipur, Chabimura and Dumboor. The planned works include construction of log huts, multipurpose parking facilities, cafeterias and other infrastructure, aimed at boosting tourism and employment in the state.
